Through internet in forms of screens, we have filled our minds with countless variables. We see a new shiny thing, that becomes a variable in our mind, take a moment and reflect on how many shiny things your mind gets exposed to each day? You'd know what I mean.
Limiting variables is not an option, its a necessity if you seek a calm and slow life. Upon introspection I found out that I really am living my life extremely comfortably, and if you as a person are curious enough to read this across, I believe you are too. So, what's the whole rush about?
Let's take YouTube for deliberation. If you want to buy something, you probably would have seen it in person, maybe even experienced it yourself and liked it and decided that's nice, like a motorcycle. But naturally the next thing you'd be gravitated to do is to search YouTube and that's where the multiverse of variable resides, you end up seeing 10 other motorcycles which had no relation to your interests whatsoever but you experience FOMO and that makes you unsettled and you forget why you originally wanted to have a motorcycle, maybe its the feel of switching gears you enjoyed, maybe its the torque which had put a smile on your face, but now all that is dissolved, simply because you saw a guy riding a thrice more expensive motorcycle with a lot more power than necessary on a mountain trail.
At this point its no more about the motorcycle anymore, it has become about you envying some other person's experience, obsessing and feeling inferior as if riding a bike on a mountain trail is all you want to do your entire life.
There are two aspects here which I feel we as an individual must dwell upon:
1. You can never have or do everything. Your time is limited, your energy is limited, there are way too many options (variables) to keep running behind.
2. A little self awareness goes a long way. Know what truly matters to you and what part of an experience you really wish to live.
If you wish to dwell a little deeper, remember that "familiarity breeds contempt :)"
